Yubin Jang eye history with three-week winning streak at ‘Home Turf’ Gunsan CC
The former LIV Golf star returns to his favorite hunting ground aiming to become only the third player in KPGA Tour history to secure three consecutive victories.
Paju, Korea - Reigning powerhouse Yubin Jang is primed to chase a historic milestone as he guns for his third consecutive KPGA Tour victory at his favorite venue, Gunsan Country Club, starting Thursday.
The 24-year-old standout, who swept the Genesis Point award, prize money title, and scoring average crown in 2024 before a stint on the LIV Golf League, has been in unstoppable form since returning to the domestic stage, capturing the KPGA Classic and the Hana Bank Invitational in back-to-back weeks.
“I am well aware that a three-week winning streak is a rare and historic achievement in our sport, and I am incredibly grateful just to have this opportunity,” said Jang, who brushed off post-victory media obligations to focus on his historic bid. “I plan to rest up well and maintain my signature aggressive style of play at Gunsan.”
Securing three consecutive titles remains one of the most elusive feats in Korean golf history, achieved only by legendary figures Sang-ho Choi in 1991 and Kwang-soo Choi in 2000, underscoring the monumental task ahead of the current frontrunner.
Jang enters the high-stakes week with massive confidence given that Gunsan Country Club’s Tournament Course has served as the backdrop for two of his five career titles, having captured the trophy there as an amateur in 2023 before successfully defending his crown as a professional the following year.
While Jang comfortably leads the Genesis Point standings (3,376 points) and the season money list (569 million won), he will face a formidable chasing pack determined to halt his streak, including fellow 2026 tournament winners Dong-hyun Moon, Ji-ho Yang, Do-yeob Mun, and Min-hyuk Song.
In a unique twist for the domestic circuit, the total purse and first-place prize money for this week’s Gunsan CC Open will be finalized by combining the ticket revenues from last year’s final round with the proceeds from the opening three rounds of this week’s championship.
