Woad takes spotlight in July as Player of the Month voting opens
Las Vegas - The Ladies European Tour has revealed the shortlist for July’s Player of the Month, a month that saw rising stars and seasoned contenders leave a mark on both leaderboards and history.
Lottie Woad’s breakthrough month will be remembered as the story of the season so far. The 21-year-old Englishwoman, still an amateur at the time, shocked the field by capturing her first LET title at the KPMG Women’s Irish Open. One week later, she fell agonisingly short of a playoff at The Amundi Evian Championship. Then, on her professional debut in Scotland, Woad showed the same mettle, winning by three shots before closing out the month with a top-10 at the AIG Women’s Open.
“Lottie Woad has arrived,” said LET commentator Richard Kaufman. “She stunned the field in Ireland, was third at Evian, then stepped up as a professional and immediately won again. July will go down in the history books.”
Ireland’s Leona Maguire had her own standout moment with a hole-in-one in Evian, opening with a 65 and finishing tied-seventh for her best result of the year. A top-20 in Scotland followed as the Solheim Cup star showed signs of a strong second half of the season.
“Leona lit up the Amundi Evian Championship,” said Kaufman. “That ace helped propel her to a top-10, and she’s clearly trending in the right direction.”
Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul came within one stroke of her maiden Major title in France, carding four rounds in the 60s at the Evian Resort. She finished tied with Grace Kim before the Australian sealed the victory with an eagle in the playoff. Thitikul’s return to World No.1 status capped a remarkable stretch despite a more subdued showing at the AIG Women’s Open.
“Walking up the 72nd at Evian, Jeeno looked set to break through,” Kaufman reflected. “But she handled the heartbreak with grace. Her time will surely come.”
Charley Hull thrilled home fans with her trademark flair. A fourth-place finish in Ireland was followed by a withdrawal from Evian due to a medical issue. She returned in Scotland with a gritty top-25 while not fully fit and surged into a tie for second at the AIG Women’s Open, marking her fourth career runner-up finish in a Major.
“Charley Hull is never far from the headlines,” said Sophie Walker. “She made her mark again – even at 80% – and delivered a weekend charge at the AIG Women’s Open that fans won’t forget.”
Fans can vote for their July Player of the Month now, with the winner to be revealed next week.
