The Long Road to Royal Portrush: Final Qualifying Begins
288 Players Chase 20 Coveted Spots in The 153rd Open
Seoul, Korea - Veteran pros, rising stars and determined amateurs will converge on four iconic courses next week, as Final Qualifying for The 153rd Open takes place on Tuesday 1 July across Britain. A total of 288 golfers will vie for just 20 remaining places at Royal Portrush.
The venues - Burnham & Berrow, Dundonald Links, Royal Cinque Ports, and West Lancashire - will each offer five golden tickets into golf's oldest major championship. With The Open returning to Royal Portrush from 13-20 July 2025, the stakes could not be higher.
"There is nothing quite like The Open. It's the dream for every golfer," said Scottish hopeful Craig Mitchell, who will tee it up at Dundonald Links. "You just have to give yourself a chance. One good round can change everything."
This year’s Open Qualifying Series has already awarded spots around the globe, from the ISPS HANDA Australian Open in Melbourne to the KOLON Korea Open in Chuncheon. The final wave of hopefuls now look to seize their moment in the dramatic one-day shootout.
The Championship, staged by The R&A, remains the most international of the majors, with qualifying events on every continent. For one historic week, the eyes of the sporting world will again turn to the famous links of Royal Portrush as golf's finest compete for the Claret Jug.
