The Claret Jug Shines Bright in the Big Apple
Golf's Most Famous Trophy Captivates New York Ahead of The Open
One of golf's most iconic trophies, the Claret Jug, made a striking visit to New York City this week, celebrating the countdown to The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush, Northern Ireland, set for July 17-20.
The famed trophy graced landmarks like the Brooklyn Bridge and Yankee Stadium, while also visiting NBA headquarters, Mercedes-Benz Manhattan and NBC Sports in Stamford. It even made a ceremonial stop at the British Consulate General for a breakfast gathering.
"It’s amazing to see the Claret Jug in person. It represents not just golf, but sporting history," said Thomas Reynolds, a lifelong fan who attended the fan event at Game on Golf Center in White Plains, where visitors posed for photos with the prize.
This year’s Open promises to be one of the largest in history, with over 1.2 million ticket applications for 278,000 available spots, making it the biggest Championship outside of St Andrews and Northern Ireland’s largest sporting event ever.
American fans can look forward to more than 200 hours of coverage across NBC, USA Network, Peacock, Golf Channel and Toptracer’s innovative broadcasts, ensuring that the drama of Royal Portrush reaches every corner of the US.
