Straka returns to home soil for 2026 Austrian Alpine Open
Ryder Cup star’s homecoming promises celebration and spectacle in Kitzbühel Alps
Seoul, Korea - Sepp Straka will make an emotional return to his homeland next year when he tees it up at the 2026 Austrian Alpine Open presented by Kitzbühel Tirol, from May 28–31.
The 32-year-old, who became the first Austrian to win on the PGA TOUR in 2022, will play in front of home crowds for the first time since 2017. A two-time Ryder Cup winner with Team Europe, Straka has enjoyed a remarkable rise, capturing three more titles in the United States including this year’s American Express and Truist Championship.
“I’m very excited to return to Austria to play in my national open again,” said Straka. “It has been a number of years since I last had the chance to play in front of home crowds, and a lot has happened in that time. It’ll be a great opportunity to celebrate that success in front of family, friends and fans, and I’m really looking forward to it.”
Tournament organiser Edwin Weindorfer, CEO and Founder of Emotion Group/Golf Enterprises, said: “We have been working for a good six months to bring Sepp to our tournament. Now a dream is coming true for us. Sepp Straka will be part of our initiative to establish the Austrian Alpine Open presented by Kitzbühel Tirol as the Hahnenkamm of the summer.”
Next year’s event moves to Golfclub Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith, nestled in the heart of the Kitzbühel Alps, which will host Austria’s national open for the first time. The tournament returned to the DP World Tour’s Global Schedule earlier this year when Germany’s Nicolai von Dellingshausen claimed his maiden title at Golfclub Gut Altentann.
