Sciot-Siegrist Sizzles in Normandy Breeze
Frenchman finds his rhythm to lead by one at Le Vaudreuil
Las Vegas - Robin Sciot-Siegrist surged into the lead at the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge with a sparkling opening round of 65, finishing one shot clear on a blustery day in Normandy.
The 31-year-old Frenchman was methodical on home turf, parring his first six holes before catching fire mid-round with a barrage of birdies — seven in nine holes — capped off with a closing birdie at the par-five 18th to reach seven under par.
“It’s a good test of golf,” he said. “You don’t have to chase pins — just stick to the middle and be smart. I did that, and the putts finally started to fall.”
The left-hander, who was a runner-up in a playoff at this event three years ago, showed no signs of nerves. Despite a lone bogey at 17, he bounced back immediately to reclaim the outright lead.
“There was wind, but I managed it well,” Sciot-Siegrist added. “A couple of long ones dropped, and I played the par fives smart. It’s a course I know well, and that helps.”
Chasing him are countryman Clément Charmasson, England’s James Allan, and Scotland’s Daniel Young, all posting solid 66s. Mathieu Decottignies-Lafon sits fifth after finishing with five consecutive birdies for a 67.
Round two begins Friday at 8am, with Sciot-Siegrist heading out at 9:00 alongside Scotland’s Euan Walker and Spain’s Quim Vidal, looking to extend his lead on familiar ground.
