Scheffler Thitikul Cink set the standard
Three careers three tours one defining season
Scottie Scheffler, Jeeno Thitikul and Stewart Cink were named the Golf Writers Association of America’s 2025 Players of the Year on January 13, recognised for dominant seasons across the men’s, women’s and senior professional games.
Scheffler, the world No. 1 from Dallas, won six times in 2025, including the PGA Championship and the Open Championship, recording 17 top-10 finishes in 20 starts and leading the PGA Tour in scoring average to repeat as GWAA Male Player of the Year.
“I am extremely honored to win the GWAA Player of the Year Award for the third time,” said Scottie Scheffler. “The 2025 season was a year I will never forget. From winning the PGA Championship and the Open Championship to breaking through at my hometown event, the CJ Cup Byron Nelson, it was truly a special year.”
Thitikul capped a historic LPGA season by defending her title at the CME Group Tour Championship, winning three times, setting a season scoring-average record of 68.681, leading the money list and rising to world No. 1. “This award means a lot to me,” said Jeeno Thitikul, who received 68.2 percent of the vote.
Cink earned Senior Player of the Year honours after three wins in 21 starts on the PGA Tour Champions, including the Schwab Cup Championship, leading the circuit in points. “It means a lot when journalists who have been covering our sport for so long are the ones deciding,” said Stewart Cink, who will be recognised alongside Scheffler and Thitikul at the 52nd annual ISPS Handa GWAA Awards Dinner on April 8 in Augusta, Georgia.
