Scheffler Stamps His Class Again at Muirfield Village
World No.1 claims back-to-back Memorial wins as Griffin and Straka trail in vintage display
Paju, Korea - Scottie Scheffler delivered yet another statement of supremacy on Sunday, claiming his second consecutive Memorial Tournament presented by Workday title with a composed 70 to finish 10 under par—four clear of Ben Griffin.
The 28-year-old American secured his 16th PGA TOUR victory in just over three years since his maiden triumph, matching icons like Justin Thomas and Mark O’Meara on the all-time list. “I never felt out of control,” said Scheffler, whose sublime ball-striking offset a modest week with the putter.
Griffin, who led after Thursday with a 65, couldn’t maintain momentum and settled for second after a final-round 73—his third runner-up finish on TOUR.
Austria’s Sepp Straka charged into solo third with weekend rounds of 66 and 70, while Nick Taylor faded to fourth after starting the final day within reach.
With the win, Scheffler became only the second player, after Tiger Woods, to defend the Memorial crown and win it in consecutive seasons. He also widened his FedExCup lead over Rory McIlroy to 835 points.
Rickie Fowler (T7) earned a spot in The Open at Royal Portrush, edging fellow veteran Brandt Snedeker by virtue of his higher world ranking.
