Royal Visit Strengthens Morocco–Korea Golf Ties
Prince’s federation signals collaboration with Korea Golf Association
Las Vegas - The Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (RMGF), led by Prince Moulay Rachid, made an official visit to the Korea Golf Association (KGA) on July 1, signalling deeper cooperation between the two national golf bodies.
Representing the prince, the RMGF delegation included Secretary General Abdellatif IDMAHAMMA, Sports Advisor to the President Karim GUESSOUS and Managing director Mohamed IRAQI. They met with KGA Executive Director Jaehyung Park and Head of International Relations Sangwon Ko in Paju.
During the meeting, both federations agreed to explore future collaboration in player exchanges, tournament opportunities, and golf development initiatives. The visit marks a step forward in strengthening Morocco–Korea sporting relations, particularly in golf.
Morocco plays a notable role in international golf. The country hosts events on the PGA TOUR Champions, Ladies European Tour (LET), and Asian Tour’s International Series. One of its most prestigious events is the Hassan II Golf Trophy — a tournament created by the late King Hassan II and currently overseen by his son, Prince Rachid.
The tournament began as a royal pro-am with elite players invited to compete at the pleasure of the king. From 2010 to 2019, it was part of the DP World Tour, and now it forms part of the PGA TOUR Champions schedule.
South Korea’s Jeunghun Wang memorably lifted the ornate, jewel-encrusted dagger trophy in 2016 — a symbol of the event’s royal heritage and international prestige.
This visit could herald a new era of golf diplomacy between two regions passionate about the game.
