Reed extends lead in Qatar
Patrick Reed moved into pole position at the 2026 Qatar Masters after extending his lead to two shots with a controlled, bogey-free third round at Doha Golf Club, putting himself on course for a second victory of the season.
The American followed his overnight one-shot advantage with a steady 70 in blustery conditions to reach 14 under par, edging clear of Denmark’s Jacob Skov Olesen, while reinforcing his standing atop the International Swing after recent strong finishes in Dubai and Bahrain.
“Obviously it was really windy out there today, especially this afternoon,” Reed said. “To go around this place bogey-free, especially with how the wind was, it’s obviously successful. The golf game feels good, it feels solid, it feels steady and really just got to go out there and keep the foot on the gas tomorrow.”
Reed’s round was defined by patience rather than fireworks, with birdies at the second and par-five tenth offset by 16 pars, as playing partner Joakim Lagergren briefly threatened before dropping ground across the back nine. Olesen, despite being one over at the turn, surged with five birdies on the inward half to secure a place in the final group.
“I’m very pleased,” Olesen said. “It was a grind on the front nine. It was just about staying patient, and it paid off in the end. You never know when you’re going to make birdies, you just try and stay patient and hit good shots.”
With Angel Ayora and Daniel Hillier two shots further back on 11 under par and a congested chasing pack behind them, Reed carries a narrow but meaningful cushion into the final round, knowing another measured performance could seal the title on a demanding Doha layout.
