Record Prize Purse Set to Elevate the AIG Women’s Open
Porthcawl, Wales - The AIG Women’s Open will offer a record prize fund of $9.75 million when play begins at Royal Porthcawl this week, continuing a trend of steady growth in the Championship’s financial rewards.
This year’s Champion will receive $1,462,500—the highest winner’s share in the 49-year history of the event. It marks a $250,000 increase on the 2024 purse and is nearly three times the amount on offer when AIG began its partnership with The R&A in 2019.
Since that landmark agreement, the purse has climbed from $4.5 million to its current total, with significant boosts nearly every year: $5.8 million in 2021, $7.3 million in 2022, and $9 million in 2023. The 2025 edition now sets a new benchmark for the women’s game.
First played in 1976, the AIG Women’s Open is one of five major championships in women’s golf and now sits at the heart of The R&A’s efforts to grow the game. The Championship hosts 144 players, including amateurs vying for the Smyth Salver, and champions a wider commitment to inspire, engage and reshape perceptions of women’s golf.
This year’s venue, Royal Porthcawl in Wales, will welcome the game’s elite from 30 July to 3 August. Royal Lytham & St Annes is set to host the event in 2026 as the Championship continues its rotation of iconic links venues.
