Paju, Korea - The PGA of America announced on Wednesday the U.S. Team selection criteria for the 2027 Ryder Cup, establishing a streamlined 31-event qualification calendar starting in January 2027.
Under the new system approved by U.S. Captain Jim Furyk, points will be awarded across 31 official PGA Tour and Major events beginning at The American Express (January 18–24, 2027) and concluding at the BMW Championship (August 16–22, 2027). The top six eligible players on the final U.S. Ryder Cup points list will earn automatic spots on the team. Furyk will select his six Captain’s picks during the week of August 30 following the conclusion of the TOUR Championship.
“I have worked diligently with our team and am pleased to implement a new qualifying process for the 2027 U.S. Ryder Cup Team,” said Furyk. “We possess an exceptional mix of veterans and rising stars, and this system will help us identify the strongest players in September 2027. I am excited for qualification to begin in January.”
The qualifying schedule spans the four Major Championships, THE PLAYERS Championship, eight PGA Tour Signature events, two FedExCup Playoff events, and 16 full-field regular season tournaments. Opposite-field PGA Tour events will not offer qualifying points.
Points allocation for tournament winners is structured as follows:
Major Championships: 3,000 points (The Masters, PGA Championship, U.S. Open, The Open Championship)
THE PLAYERS Championship: 2,850 points
PGA Tour Signature & Playoff Events: 2,250 points (8 Signature events plus FedEx St. Jude Championship and BMW Championship)
PGA Tour Full-Field Events: 1,500 points (Starting with The American Express)
Every eligible American player making the cut and finishing within the official purse distribution in qualifying events will earn a proportional percentage of available points based on their final finish position.
