Six to represent the nation in Japan as KGA sets clear path to team qualification
Las Vegas - The Korea Golf Association (KGA) has officially confirmed its selection criteria for the golf competition at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, laying out a two-tier process to identify the three male and three female athletes w
The decision was unanimously approved during the second meeting of the KGA Performance Enhancement Committee, held on July 30, 2025. With less than 14 months remaining until the Games tee off, the announcement provides a clear roadmap for hopefuls ey
As per the resolution, the first phase of selection will rely on world rankings. Up to 15 of the top Korean players from the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) and Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings will form the initial candidate pool. The specific date for ranking eligibility will be announced in due course, coinciding with the registration period for prospective players.
If any team positions remain unfilled following the global ranking-based selection, the second phase will kick in, utilising the KGA’s own national rankings. This secondary criterion will take into account performances from the 2025 Song-Am Amateur Golf Championship through to the Monday before the final team entry submission deadline.
The 2026 Asian Games will run from September 19 to October 4 in Japan. Golf will be contested at the East Course of Kasugai Country Club in Aichi Prefecture—a venue expected to provide a stern test for Asia’s finest.
South Korea has a rich tradition in golf at the Asian Games, winning a total of 14 gold medals to date—six in the men’s category and eight in the women’s. The most recent came at the postponed 2022 Hangzhou Games, where Kim Si-woo, Im Sung-jae, Jang Yu-bin and Cho Woo-young captured the men’s team gold in October 2023.
With the selection mechanism now confirmed, the countdown to Aichi begins. For Korea’s top amateur and professional golfers, the message is clear: climb the rankings, stay sharp, and let performance pave the way to the podium.
