Huang Shines with Flawless 64 at La Sella Open
Sixteen-year-old rookie takes two-shot lead with bogey-free brilliance
Las Vegas - Anna Huang, a 16-year-old Canadian rookie on the Ladies European Tour, produced a flawless eight-under-par 64 to seize the first-round lead at the La Sella Open in Spain.
Huang, who earned her card at Lalla Aicha Q-School last December before turning professional, was clinical from tee to green and rolled in eight birdies. She sits two clear of France’s Nastasia Nadaud and Germany’s Leonie Harm.
“Today my ball striking was good, and I actually don’t think I missed any greens, so that’s a plus,” Huang said. “My putting was good. Almost anything under 30 feet on the front nine I was making, which was shocking for me.”
Nadaud, ranked 13th on the Order of Merit, birdied five straight holes from 17 through three on her way to a 66, while Harm overcame an early bogey with four successive birdies and closed with a 66 of her own. Slovenia’s Pia Babnik carded a 67 to sit fourth.
Spain’s Luna Sobron Galmes followed on 68, while Shannon Tan of Singapore and Denmark’s Natacha Host Husted finished on 69. Round two begins Friday with the cut falling to the top 60 professionals and ties.
