Hovland, Straka and the Højgaards Set for Wentworth Stage
A powerhouse quartet returns to headline Wentworth’s Festival of Golf amid soaring anticipation and sold-out crowds
Porthcawl, Wales - A stellar quartet of Viktor Hovland, Sepp Straka, and Danish twins Nicolai and Rasmus Højgaard will tee it up at the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth Club from September 9–14.
Between them, the four players boast 21 titles on the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR. Their confirmation bolsters a field already rich with major winners, Ryder Cup talent and elite competitors for what is widely considered the flagship event of the DP World Tour.
Hovland, making his fifth start in the tournament, returns to the West Course after a year’s absence due to a wrist injury. “I’m looking forward to getting back to Wentworth – it was disappointing to miss last year, because the event has become a real highlight of my schedule,” said the Norwegian, who posted consecutive fifth-place finishes in 2022 and 2023. “My last two performances were positive, so I’m hoping to back those up when I return in September.”
Straka has been in sharp form this season with victories at both The American Express and the Truist Championship – each a PGA TOUR Signature Event. Now eyeing a second Ryder Cup appearance, the Austrian is set for his third Wentworth start. “I’m excited to return to Wentworth for the BMW PGA Championship,” he said. “I’ve had two really good experiences of the event so far and I’m sure this year will be no different.”
The Højgaard twins enter the September showpiece after standout summers, both finishing inside the top 20 at The 153rd Open at Royal Portrush. Rasmus, a five-time DP World Tour winner, held off Rory McIlroy to claim last year’s Amgen Irish Open and finished runner-up in the season-long Race to Dubai. “It’ll be great to return to Wentworth later this year as part of an exciting run of events in September,” he said. “I’ve really enjoyed the week since making my first appearance there in 2020, the course is a great test and one we enjoy playing.”
Nicolai, whose last Tour win came at the 2023 DP World Tour Championship shortly after his Ryder Cup debut, added: “The BMW PGA Championship is one of the best events of the season. The fans are fantastic and there is a great atmosphere during the whole week. I know it’s an event we all anticipate, so we’re looking forward to getting back there in a few weeks’ time.”
Weekend tickets for the championship are already sold out, with weekday passes also selling fast as anticipation builds for the Festival of Golf.
