Haeran Ryu Lights Up Utah with Record-Breaking Round
The South Korean star dazzles in Utah, setting a stunning course record at the Black Desert Championship
Seoul, Korea - South Korea's Haeran Ryu surged into the spotlight at Black Desert Resort in Ivins, Utah, storming to the top of the leaderboard with an electrifying first-round 63, a record-setting start to the Black Desert Championship.
Ryu’s sensational, bogey-free performance featured an astonishing nine birdies, marking her lowest opening round in an LPGA Tour event and setting a new 18-hole record for the tournament.
"I felt confident today because accuracy was key, and that's what I've been working hardest on," said Ryu, who missed just one fairway and a single green. "My long irons were strong, and my putting clicked perfectly."
The event, which features a robust field chasing a $3 million purse, saw Ryu's nearest challengers, Ariya Jutanugarn and Wei-Ling Hsu, card impressive 8-under rounds, keeping pressure on the leader.
With three rounds remaining, Ryu aims not only for victory but to solidify her place among golf’s elite, carrying forward the momentum from her recent strong finish at The Chevron Championship.
