Fünfstück seals first LET crown at PIF London Championship
German holds nerve after shaky start to triumph at Centurion Club
Las Vegas - Laura Fünfstück claimed her maiden Ladies European Tour title with a one-stroke victory at the PIF London Championship, closing with a 10-under-par total at Centurion Club.
The 30-year-old, who led by three shots overnight, endured a nervy opening, playing her first four holes in three-over-par. But she rallied on the back nine, rolling in birdies at the 12th, 14th, 17th and finally from one foot at the last to secure the win.
“At the beginning of the day, I said I want to earn this today and I did on the back nine,” said Fünfstück. “I was so nervous, I had half a sausage for breakfast. I’m starving now. I’m so happy, I’m so pleased. That was fun.”
Ecuador’s Daniela Darquea posted a five-under 68 to finish second on nine-under-par – her best LET finish – while five-time winner Anne Van Dam eagled the last to claim third on eight-under. Seven players, including England’s Olivia Cowan and Mimi Rhodes, tied for fourth at seven-under.
Victory lifted Fünfstück from 32nd to 11th in the LET Order of Merit, while Rhodes extended her lead at the top. The Tour takes a week off before heading to Sweden for the Hills Open from 22-24 August.
