Format shake-up promises more drama at LIV Golf’s 2025 season finale
New play-in, no byes and all 48 players in action aim to deliver four days of pressure-packed golf in Michigan
Las Vegas - LIV Golf will unveil a revamped format for its 2025 Team Championship, staged 22–24 August at The Cardinal at Saint John’s Resort in Plymouth, Michigan, designed to keep the League’s biggest names in play from start to finish.
The shake-up introduces a Wednesday play-in between the two lowest-seeded teams, eliminates first-round byes, and ensures all 48 players compete on Friday and Saturday in match play before a Sunday stroke-play climax. Higher seeds will now see opponents’ line-ups before naming their own, adding a tactical twist.
“I think you’ll see a few teams get knocked out that you maybe wouldn’t expect,” said Cameron Smith, captain of defending champions Ripper GC. Crushers GC skipper Bryson DeChambeau added: “More pressure. Each day matters more.”
The changes mean fans will see every team in action all weekend, with match play featuring two singles and one alternate-shot contest. The three surviving Championship Bracket teams will contest the title on Sunday, when all four scores count toward the team total.
Ross Hallett, LIV Golf’s Executive Vice President and Head of Events, said the goal is to “enhance both our competition and fan experiences” with a high-stakes championship supported by concerts and family-friendly entertainment. The winning team will be crowned 2025 LIV Golf Team Champion after what is expected to be the most competitive finale yet.
