Crowned Again: Soomin Oh Defends Korea’s Premier Amateur Title
Korea’s top amateur defends her crown at the nation’s oldest women’s amateur golf event, securing back-to-back wins in style.
Las Vegas - Korean national team golfer Soomin Oh successfully defended her title at the 49th Kang Min Koo Cup Korea Women’s Amateur Golf Championship on June 27 at Yuseong Country Club in Daejeon.
Oh fired a final-round 3-under 69 with six birdies, one bogey, and a double bogey to finish at 11-under 277, two strokes ahead of Yoonseo Yang and fellow national squad member Seojin Park.
“I played in the final group with my closest friend(Park), and we just enjoyed the round without getting too nervous,” Oh said. “To defend this title at home—it’s a moment I’ll remember even after turning pro.”
The Kang Min Koo Cup is Korea’s oldest women’s amateur tournament and a prestigious national title. Oh becomes only the third player in the event’s 49-year history to win back-to-back titles, joining legends Jaesook Won and Hyosong Lee.
Oh, who also defended her title earlier this year at the Queen Sirikit Cup in Japan, now sets her sights on the upcoming Bear Creek Cup, where she hopes to add another national win to her rising career.
