Couvra Hopes to Seal European Swing Success in Munich
Young Frenchman targets strong finish at BMW International Open after stunning summer surge
Las Vegas - Martin Couvra has been a revelation on the DP World Tour this summer, and the 22-year-old Frenchman is aiming to cap off a memorable run with another top performance at the BMW International Open in Munich.
The former HotelPlanner Tour graduate has surged to the top of the European Swing Rankings, thanks to a breakthrough win at the Turkish Airlines Open in May, followed by a tie for eighth in Austria and a runner-up finish at last week's Italian Open. His reward? A 69-point lead and a shot at a US$200,000 bonus.
“I feel great about my position,” said Couvra, ahead of his debut at Golfclub München Eichenried. “Every week I just try to play good golf, and to be in this spot going into the weekend is really nice. Now the goal is to finish the job.”
Joining Couvra in a strong field is defending champion Ewen Ferguson, who last year became the first Scottish winner of the event since Colin Montgomerie in 1999. The three-time Tour winner arrives in form, with two top-fives in his last three starts.
Adding to the draw is Ryder Cup Captain Luke Donald, returning for a third straight appearance and maintaining a perfect cut record in six outings here. Meanwhile, home hopes rest on Nicolai von Dellingshausen, fresh from victory in the Austrian Alps, along with Marcel Siem, Yannik Paul and Matti Schmid.
Off the course, BMW continues its “Eagles for Education” initiative, donating €1,000 per eagle to Philipp Lahm’s Foundation for Sport and Education. The goal? Equal opportunity and support for underprivileged youth.
With a rich blend of rising stars, home favourites, and meaningful causes, Munich sets the stage for one last chapter in this year’s European Swing—and Martin Couvra will be chasing a fairytale ending.
