Cool in the Storm: Campbell Prevails at John Deere Classic
Illinois alum edges Grillo in playoff to claim second PGA TOUR title of the season
Las Vegas - Brian Campbell captured his second PGA TOUR victory on Sunday at the John Deere Classic, defeating Emiliano Grillo with a par on the first playoff hole at TPC Deere Run.
Both Campbell and Grillo carded matching final rounds of 67 to finish at 18-under-par 266, one shot clear of Kevin Roy and David Lipsky. Campbell, 32, a University of Illinois graduate, also won earlier this season at the Mexico Open, where he also prevailed in a playoff.
The playoff was the 11th in tournament history and the first since 2015. Campbell’s playoff record on TOUR now stands at 2-0, while Grillo drops to 2-2.
Campbell earns 500 FedExCup points, moving from 59th to 28th in the standings. His Official World Golf Ranking improves from 115th to 55th. Sunday’s win also marks his best finish at the John Deere Classic, having previously missed the cut in 2015 and finished T12 in 2017.
Grillo, who tied for second, recorded his seventh career runner-up and second at this event, having finished T2 in 2022. Kevin Roy posted his best result of the season with a T3, his third top-10 of the year. David Lipsky also tied for third, his best finish since finishing runner-up at the 2024 Procore Championship.
Max Homa, a six-time PGA TOUR winner, earned his first top-10 of the season with a T5 finish at 16-under.
World No. 1 amateur Jackson Koivun, playing on a sponsor exemption, recorded his best PGA TOUR finish with a T11 at 15-under in just his sixth career start.
The final round was played under mostly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temperatures reached 85 degrees with northwest winds at 5-10 mph.
Campbell becomes the sixth player with multiple TOUR wins this season, joining Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Ryan Fox, Ben Griffin, and Sepp Straka.
