Brown Seals Emotional Win in Munich
Englishman triumphs at BMW International Open with friend in his heart
Las Vegas - Dan Brown delivered a poignant performance to claim the BMW International Open at Golfclub München Eichenried, firing a closing 66 to finish two shots clear of Jordan Smith at 22-under-par.
Brown, 30, wept as he secured his second DP World Tour title, dedicating it to a close friend who passed away last week. His round was highlighted by birdies at two, three, five and six, and though Smith applied pressure, Brown’s composure and a bold three-wood into 18 sealed the deal.
"I lost a friend at home last weekend. This one was for him," said an emotional Brown. "I’m not sure what happened out there — it felt like an out-of-body experience. But he was with me, and that made it easier."
The victory lifts Brown to 15th on the Race to Dubai Rankings and to fifth on the European Swing standings, won by Norway’s Kristoffer Reitan, who shared fourth.
New Zealand’s Kazuma Kobori posted a stunning 63 to finish third, while Reitan, Davis Bryant, Joost Luiten and others booked spots in The Open through their rankings. BMW’s Eagles for Education initiative raised €73,000 for Philipp Lahm’s foundation during the week.
Brown’s triumph, played with heart and nerve, was a reminder of how golf’s quietest moments often carry the loudest emotions.
