Briem Shines at Home as Quartet Share Lead in Hamburg
German teen among four tied at the top after day one of the Amundi German Masters
Las Vegas - Germany’s rising star Helen Briem delighted local fans with a sparkling five-under 68 to join a four-way tie at the top after round one of the 2025 Amundi German Masters at Green Eagle Golf Courses in Hamburg.
Briem, just 19 and already a Ladies European Tour winner, carded seven birdies against two bogeys in a confident display of wedge play and improved putting, crediting recent work with her coach for her sharp approach shots.
“I had many birdie chances and used many of them,” said Briem. “I didn’t hit many drivers—lots of 4-irons—and that really helped. I figured out my approaches yesterday and stuck them close today.”
Sharing the lead are England’s Alice Hewson, New Zealand’s Amelia Garvey, and Sweden’s Ellinor Südow, all posting 68s on a course that Hewson called “not playing easy” despite forward tees and still morning conditions.
LET rookie Garvey used her 2-iron stinger to precision, while Südow, who made a double on the front nine, clawed back with five back-nine birdies in a gritty finish. Round two resumes at 7.40am with a cut to the top 60 professionals and ties.
