Bernat Escuder Claims Augusta Glory in Record Fashion
Augusta, Georgia - Spanish amateur Carla Bernat Escuder clinched the 2025 Augusta National Women's Amateur title with a championship-record 12-under 204, joining illustrious compatriots such as Seve Ballesteros and Jon Rahm as a champion at Augusta National.
Trailing by one stroke at the start of the final round, Bernat Escuder produced a calm and methodical performance, carding a third consecutive four-under 68. Her decisive move came with back-to-back birdies, notably an exquisite approach shot on the ninth that finished mere inches from the hole.
"I knew the tournament was going to start on No. 10 because I've watched all the Masters," Bernat Escuder said. "As soon as I hit that second shot, I was like, 'oh, I need to get it together and just get this par,' and I dug in, and I think that was the key."
Kansas State University's Bernat Escuder, ranked 29th in the amateur world rankings, became the first golfer in the event's history to post three rounds in the 60s. She is the sixth woman to earn the coveted Augusta National Women's Amateur title.
The 21-year-old Spaniard, preparing to turn professional this summer, expressed pride in her achievement and its significance for Spain: "I want more Spaniards to get here and keep pushing our country up and up. Hopefully, I'm not the last one."
