Paju, Korea - Twelve-year-old Avelyn Tan Wen Xin made history at The Els Club Desaru Coast on Tuesday, capturing the gross title at the second edition of the Els Club Ladies Open 2026 to become the youngest champion in the venue’s history.
Competing against a 100-player field over the Ernie Els Signature Design Ocean Course, Tan posted a gross score of six-over-par 78. Her victory marks the youngest win across all amateur events held at the acclaimed Malaysian venue, which is managed by Troon International.
In the net division, Suhaila Ramli claimed top honors after carding a net score of 67. The event drew female golfers from Singapore, Johor, and across Northern and Central Malaysia, highlighting Desaru Coast’s rise as a regional hub for women’s golf.
“We are delighted to see the incredible growth of The Els Club Ladies Open in its second year,” said Harris Abdullah, General Manager of The Els Club Desaru Coast. “Welcoming 100 participants from across Malaysia and Singapore is a testament to the growing enthusiasm for the event. We are especially proud to witness history being made with our youngest-ever amateur champion, which reflects the bright future of the sport.”
The tournament’s strong regional attendance reinforces Desaru Coast’s broader ambition to cement the state of Johor as a premier destination for sports tourism and international golf events.
