Aunchisa Utama storms from behind to claim thrilling playoff victory in Netherlands
The Thai star fires a brilliant final-round 66 before draining an 18-foot birdie putt to capture her maiden LET title.
The 35-year-old journeyman began the day in a distant tie for 15th before firing a flawless, bogey-free six-under-par 66 at Goyer Golf & Country Club to set the clubhouse pace at nine-under par overall.
“It means everything,” said a tearful Utama, who celebrated her breakthrough with an emotional FaceTime call to her father in Thailand. “We put everything in our lives to do the best we can, and to have my friends and fellow players celebrate with me is so heartwarming.”
The high-stakes finale intensified when Forbrigd birdied the 18th to force a sudden-death playoff, but Utama calmly slammed the door in extra holes by draining a spectacular 18-foot birdie putt after finding the green in two.
The career-changing victory vaults Utama 55 places to 12th in the LET Order of Merit standings, providing massive momentum as the tour packs up and heads to Central Europe for next week’s Tipsport Czech Ladies Open.
