Augusta’s Heart Beats Stronger with Woods’ Grand Community Play
A Masters legend and a hallowed club unite for a bold, beautiful blend of golf and education in Georgia’s historic city.
Augusta, Georgia - Augusta National and Tiger Woods have teamed up in a ground-breaking project to build a TGR Learning Lab and a nine-hole short course at the historic Augusta Municipal Golf Course – better known as “The Patch”.
The initiative, announced by Augusta National Chairman Fred Ridley, marks a new chapter for the Georgia city, combining accessible education and affordable public golf under the stewardship of one of the sport’s most iconic figures.
“Partnering with Augusta National Golf Club to serve its surrounding community is truly special,” said Woods. “This is a transformational opportunity to empower the next generation and deliver meaningful educational programming and access to fun and affordable golf.”
The TGR Learning Lab, to be built on the former site of Lamar Elementary School, will cater to Richmond County students and those from the broader Central Savannah River Area. It aims to open its doors in April 2028, offering free STEAM-based learning and career readiness support.
Meanwhile, “The Loop at The Patch” – a new short course designed by Woods’ TGR Design team – will complement a full overhaul of the 18-hole layout, led by architects Tom Fazio and Beau Welling. The development also includes expanded practice areas and will serve golfers of all levels.
The project isn’t just about swings and science. Augusta Technical College will relocate its golf course management programmes to The Patch, linking arms with The First Tee of Augusta to boost local employment opportunities and open more doors into the golf industry.
With its blend of tradition, transformation and Tiger, Augusta is about to make history again – this time, one child, one swing and one future at a time.
