A star-studded line-up at SJM Macao Open 2026 this October
Major Champion Henrik Stenson and two-time PGA Tour winner Sungjae Im to lead world-class field at Macau Golf & Country Club
Korea - The planet’s leading golfing talent will descend on the Macau Golf & Country Club this autumn following the official launch of the SJM Macao Open 2026. Jointly organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, title sponsor SJM Resorts, S.A., and IMG, the USD 1 million flagship Asian Tour event is scheduled to take place from October 15–18. This year’s 144-player field features an elite blend of international heavyweights and regional prodigies, headlined by 2016 Open Champion Henrik Stenson and South Korean PGA Tour star Sungjae Im. Organisers also revealed an expanded slate of community, cultural, and local qualification pathways designed to further integrate the historic championship into the fabric of the Macao community.
“I am delighted to be coming to the vibrant city of Macao for the first time to compete at the SJM Macao Open this October,” said former World No. 2 Henrik Stenson, who remains the only player in history to win the Players Championship, the FedEx Cup, and the Race to Dubai within the same calendar year. “Many of the world’s best have played at the Macau Golf & Country Club and I cannot wait to experience the course for myself.” South Korea’s Sungjae Im, who secured a top-10 finish at the venue last year, expressed equal enthusiasm for his return, noting that he aims to improve on his previous performance while enjoying the city’s renowned hospitality.
The tournament will welcome back 28-year-old defending champion Dominic Foos, who made Asian Tour history last October by overcoming a six-stroke final-round deficit to secure a dramatic sudden-death playoff victory. Joining the German in the field are Chinese golfing trailblazer Zhang Lianwei—a two-time past champion of the event—and 23-year-old rising star Sampson Zheng Yunhe. Furthermore, the tournament has established a dedicated invitation spot for the top-performing local resident from the previous year’s event. The inaugural exemption has been awarded to 22-year-old Macao native Ma Kaijun, who will have the opportunity to represent his home city on an elite international stage.
To ensure the tournament acts as a catalyst for local athletic and social development, the Sports Bureau and the Macau Golf Association have reinforced their commitment to regional talent pathways. The popular SJM Macao Open Qualifier will return to the tournament venue in September, offering emerging professionals and top-tier amateurs a direct route into the main draw. Additionally, tournament organizers plan to introduce dedicated cultural and creative product exhibitions directly into the fan village, seamlessly bridging international sports with Macao’s unique cultural identity to maximize the event’s economic and tourism impact.
